Money Line Betting
In soccer each game can end in three ways. The home team can win, the road team can win, or the game can end in a tie. A money line bet is simply wagering on which of these three outcomes you expect to occur in the game in question. Here is an example:
In this example, Holland are slight favourites to win the game and a $100 wager on Holland would win $141 for a payout of $241 if they are victorious. The least expected outcome is a draw, which would result in $249 won on a $100 bet for a $349 payout. As you can see money line betting is very straight forward. You simple wager on the outcome that you think will happen against the odds of that outcome happening. Obviously the more likely outcomes will payout less than the least likely outcomes.
In soccer spread betting involves awarding the underdog team a handicap of a certain amount of goals (usually 0.5). If the underdog is given a handicap of 1/2 a goal then that team must either win or draw in order for a spread bet on that team to payout. Here is an example using the same game as above:
Holland -0.5 +141
Uruguay +0.5 -154
As you can see the Holland line did not change from the money line because it still requires Holland to win outright. However, the Uruguay line now includes a draw, and as such the odds have shortened significantly. In this case a $154 wager on Uruguay to cover the spread will win $100. If Uruguay wins or the game ends in a tie then a Uruguay spread wager pays out, while if Holland wins outright then the Dutch spread wager pays out.
Other Types of Soccer Bets
There are many other types of soccer bets that we won’t go into detail on here. Some other soccer bets include totals betting (where you bet on how many total goals will be scored in a game), prop betting (some prop bets include first goalscorer, time of first corner kick, time of last goal, and anything else you can think of really), and futures betting (such as wagering on which team will win the next World Cup). If you can think of something you would like to bet on in soccer, chances are you will be able to find a line for it. Check out our fifa world cup betting page.
